El SECRETO DE HALLE BERRY

On a sunny day in Los Angeles, as chilled sounds play in a West Hollywood studio, a small group of people huddle behind a camera. They are watching as an extraordinarily beautiful woman with skin the colour of creamy cappuccino strikes a pose again and again. With the lack of fuss, it would be easy to mistake this for just another photo shoot. Instead it’s the latest international Revlon cosmetics campaign, featuring Oscarwinning actor Halle Berry.
Berry is famous for her professionalism. At the shoot, she works tirelessly under hot lights from early in the morning until late at night. No entourage for this star: her longtime agent, Vince Cirrincione, pops in briefl y and then leaves Berry to her work. When Vogue spoke to her at the end of the day, instead of rushing off she was happy to sit down and chat about her favourite cosmetics brand. After 10 years, she is the longest serving of the current Revlon spokespeople, and remains deeply committed to the brand that she has worn since high school. “It’s the fi rst cosmetic I was ever allowed to buy,” she says. “I could afford it and my mother allowed me to buy it so I feel a real and honest connection with the brand.” Part of the attraction for her is the accessibility of the brand. “I’m a down-to-earth gal and I want to be a part of things that are affordable to everyone, and that’s why I think it’s a good match for me.”
Down to earth she may be, but Berry’s beauty has been celebrated since her early days as a prom queen and Miss Teen All-America. Along with Julia Roberts, she has the highest number of appearances on People magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful People list. Celebrity stylist Deborah Waknin, who styled Berry for the Revlon shoot as well as for the 2005 Academy Awards, waxes lyrically about the star’s “spectacular” skin while photographer Russell James, the man responsible for the latest Revlon campaign, says Berry exudes “a wonderful blend of elegance, beauty and intelligence”.
Berry herself fi nds glamour a doubleedged sword. “They make all the girls look so beautiful in the ads and it’s a pressure to live up to it every day because you don’t always look like that,” she laughs. “But most of the time it’s fun to be around this kind of glamour and to work in this industry,” she adds gracefully.
